Overview

Membership of the Eswatini Institute of Accountants is  dependent on a person having satisfied three distinct requirements namely; academic, practical, and a professional evaluation.

AS REGISTERED ACCOUNTANTS (ESWATINI)

To qualify as a Registered Accountant, candidates must fulfill the following academic and experience requirements:

  1. B.Com (Accounting) Degrees from Recognized Universities: Graduates with a B.Com or B.Acc degree for example, a B.com degree from the University of Eswatini (UNESWA).
  2. Three (3) years of Accounting Experience: Three years of documented accounting experience.

NOTE: All candidates must be Swazi citizens or valid residence permit holders residing in Eswatini at the time of application.

 

 AS CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS (ESWATINI)

To qualify as a Chartered Accountant, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  1.  Professional Accounting Qualification: Successful completion of a professional Accounting Qualification from recognized bodies, such as ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) and SAICA (South African Institute of Chartered Accountants), plus five years of experience as an Articled Clerk under an approved accounting training contract. This period is reduced to three years for candidates holding a university degree in accounting.
  2. Membership with other Recognized Institutions: Membership in good standing with other recognized professional accounting institutions that are members of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC).

Candidates admitted under these criteria who wish to obtain an Audit Practicing Certificate must also pass the ESIA “Conversion” examination covering Eswatini Taxation, Company Law, Insolvency, and the Administration of Estates.

IF NOT SWAZI CITIZENS, THEY MUST NORMALLY RESIDE IN ESWATINI FOR AT LEAST 8 MONTHS IN EACH YEAR OF VALIDITY OF THEIR RESIDENCE PERMITS.

Mandatory Continuing Professional Development (CPD) was introduced in 2005. All members must achieve 120 hours of CPD over a three year period. The Institute assists in this regard
